Information on failed firms involved with retail minibonds - December 2021

The issuance and distribution of minibonds are not regulated activities, so we do not routinely collect data from firms on their issuing/distribution of these products.

The data we do hold shows that the following number of firms involved in the issuing/distribution of minibonds entered administration/liquidation.

1. 2018 – 3 firms
2. b. 2019 – 7 firms
3. 2020 – 10 firms
4. 2021 – 5 firms

It is important to note that a firm that has gone into administration/liquidation may not have done so as a direct result of them being involved in the distribution of minibonds, there are many other factors, like the global pandemic, that could have been why a firm has failed.

We do not hold records of the total cost to investors as the issuance/distribution of minibonds are not a regulated activity, so we do not routinely collect data from firms on their issuing/distribution of these products.
