Reference Case Number: FOI2025/00547
Freedom of Information: Right to know request:
In both your quarterly update on action the regulator has taken on financial promotions and the annual update, the FCA makes mention of how many actions it has taken on a particular type of firm.
For example:
"In 2024, our engagement with 46 authorised CMCs resulted in 9,197 financial promotions being amended/withdrawn (46% of the 19,766 total)"
"Some of the most common breaches involved claims management companies, credit broker firms, debt advice firms and Contract for Difference (CFDs) providers."
I would like the information of action taken by firm type (not the wider categorisation used in Figure 1 of the quarterly updates) for the full year 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2024.
I would also like this same firm type breakdown for the firms. These quarterly reports record as "banned" "OIREQ" "VREQ" and "attestation required" for the full year 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2024.
FCA response:
We can confirm that we hold the requested information. Please see Annex A below for a breakdown of 19,766 actions by primary portfolio between 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2024, cited in our Financial Promotions Data for 2024[1]. Please note that we have interpreted your request to mean the number of financial promotions that were amended or withdrawn for a specific firm within the relevant portfolio.
Please see Annex B below for the number of supervisory tools (‘banned’, ‘OIREQ’, ‘VREQ’ and ‘attestation required’) initiated within each portfolio cited in the financial promotions data for 2024.
