On 31 August 2018, Wonga Group Limited and WDFC UK Limited (Wonga) were placed into administration. Chris Laverty, Daniel Smith and Andrew Charters from Grant Thornton were appointed as joint administrators.
As required by law, the joint administrators wrote to all known creditors on 26 October providing them with their proposals for administration. Among others, the joint administrators will be assessing complaints made by customers of Wonga and are finalising their approach for receiving claims about these complaints. The FCA will continue to supervise Wonga and is in close contact with the joint administrators with regard to the fair treatment of customers.
At the same time, the Financial Ombudsman Service is letting Wonga customers know why complaints will now be handled by the joint administrators. Read their website update[1].
If customers have any questions in the meantime about their loan they should contact Wonga on 0207 138 8330 (within opening hours) or visit the Wonga website[2] which has further information regarding the administration process. Customers are reminded they should continue to make any outstanding payments in the normal way. All existing agreements remain in place and are not affected by the administration, although the firm is no longer able to issue new loans.
Customers who are struggling financially can get free and impartial guidance from the Money Advice Service[3].
Update 7 October 2020
As required by law, the joint administrators wrote to all known creditors on 26 October 2018 providing them with their proposals for administration, which were approved on 9 November 2018 by way of a deemed consent by the creditors. The joint administrators have paid out £23,070,950 to unsecured creditors, representing 4.3p in the £ of all creditors.
The administration ended on 30 August 2020 and the joint administrators are now in the process of dissolving the Firm (WDFC UK Limited).
